Default Great truck

Hi

You got what looks to be the dream truck complete, good condition, and original, paint.

Any evidence of something having been painted on the doors? My Pattern 13 C60S came out of France in the 1980s and Stenciled on the doors was:

NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION
TO THE FRENCH ARMY
FROM THE CANADIAN ARMY

Yours is a wonderful find.

Cheers Phil

Hello
Yes it's an Nice truck !
Nothing writen on the door But the atlantik treaty is called OTAN in france an the truck is equiped with the OTAN lights and trailer spoket, OTAN begins in 1949 and standardize some equipements on the vehicles .

The two headlights from the truck are marked "export" so I think the truck was built for the right side driving.

many small thinks are différent on the truck like the ""dog house" the front doors ... Is it due to the late version of the truck?

Best regards

Sylvain

Here are some pictures:

The dog house with this cover on the top (deep fording kit?)

What is missing on the booth front door?

What is the use of this spring bracket and this sling on the top?

What is the use of this curved cut on the steep boards?

Thank you for help
best regards

Default Thoughts on your questions

Yes, cut out and cover top of the dog house for the deep water fording kit.

Unpainted area on door, lubrication chart location.

Spring and mounting point on the back of the cab is spring tension for the roof cover pull cords so that it could be kept just tight enough to open or close the canvas cover.

Funny cut mark on step, I have heard this explained as being a way to use up scrap floor plate from cutting the cabs floor. There is even an explanation for where the two sections come from the scrap of cutting the floor.

Now I'll go watch your first drive video.

Cheers Phil

Just watch that video and the video in the cab when starting, who is in the cab with you they sound excited that it started.

Thank you phil for your help!
I hunderstand now for the canvas roof

Funny for the step boards, all the steel peaces used to be used! certainly due to the steel missing at the end of the war.

Does an picture of the lub chart exist? I have this marks on the two doors was this plate each side?.

What do you think about the APT type marqued on is type plate on the dash board?

My wife is filming me, and my eight years old daugter is in the cab with me , and we were all happy that the new "baby" starts!

Best regards
Sylvain

I don't have answers to all of your questions but may be able to help.

Yes, there was an Airportable variant of the 60 cwt lorry.

The curved cut in the step is something I have seen on other trucks but I do not know why it was done, except possibly to use pieces of metal that would otherwise be scrap. The curve on the steps I have seen are all similar so it must have been a planned thing rather than just using any old pieces of scrap that they had.

I'm quite sure the spring, bracket and tie strap are to provide tension to keep the cover in place over the observation hole in the roof and also permit it to be removed quickly when needed without loss.

I had not seen the depressions in the door on larger trucks but have seen a late production HUP with lubrication information on a plate in one door (and I think a wiring diagram in the other).

There has been discussion of the engine cover differences before with people saying they believed the version you show is to allow for the wading equipment.

MLU encourages users to include their pictures as part of the posting rather than relying on picture hosting sites. Several hosting sites have ceased operation resulting in the pictures no longer being visible. Instructions on posting are found here:

On edit: I am at work, started to answer befor Phil's reply but had to pause to do some work. At least Phil's and my answers don't disagree badly.

Hello Harle' and welcome to the forum. I'm not a CMP owner myself but have an interest in WW2 Chevs.
What a wonderfully intact vehicle. There can't be many CMPs around in that sort of condition.
I notice that the rear driveshaft has one hell of a bend in it. Forklift damage perhaps?

Hi Sylvain

My daughter went with me to pick up my first CMP a HUP when she was 4 years old she is now 41 and her children are now riding in the HUP. At 4 years old she rode with me in cab of the flat bed tow truck, and was fascinated with the fact that the truck driver had filled the ash tray with with lollipops. It was a several hour trip over and back and she enjoyed the whole thing.

Has your family named the truck yet? My HUP got named BEAST because when my wife saw her first picture she said "what a beast" and the name stuck. So when I got the second one the C60S it just had to be named BEAUTY.

As to whats on the charts there is an older MLU thread that has been posted that I will try and find that thread as I think it has the text and pictures. This fits in with with Grant's comment on posting pictures directly to MLU instead of links to outside photo sites, finds like yours are few and far between and by posting the pictures directly to MLU there is a better chance that they will not be lost in the long run.

Cheers Phil

Hi Sylvain

The U brackets I think you are talking about are to release the latch on hook, they are often bent or even broken off from hitting trailer connection when backing up.

Yours look to be the correct shape.

Cheers Phil

Default Now I see what you are talking about

Hi

Now I see what you are asking about. This is a new one on me, don't think I have ever seen these before.

You may be correct that they are hose clamps. Wonder if they are part of the trailer brake booster set up.

Cheers Phil

Yes a trailer brake that's possible !
I have some curious hole drilled in the cab floor and plate welded on the pedal.
Was there a brake KIT?

What was the use of such brake lines ? For a gun ?
