... I don't think that any chick could resist me

And Kathy, that's the image we have in mind when we think in Europe about Jillaroos

Chris it's not the Blitz that attracts the Jillaroos it's the Jackaroos, did you notice them in the photo, and I'm sure the Jillaroos have changed since that the photo was taken, by the way it takes more than a raincoat to be a Jillaroo.

Ummm.... Chris... I don't know how to put this... Those girls would last about 15 seconds on a cattle station! (I would last about a minute & a half)
Most Jillaroos I have met could kick-start a Kenworth.
And bight the nuts off a bulldozer.

Default Post-Corowa update

Have changed the carby due to a build up of scale and oxidation in the bowl - does anyone have a good cure for that?

Also drove it over to have the steering and alignment checked. Interesting to watch them at work with 150-ton jacks manipulating the axle - it bends quite a lot, then rebounds back to be slightly different to it's old shape. Spectacular to watch actually.

Both camber and caster angles were set, then the wheels were aligned. As a final check it was measured to make sure all was square.

Driving it home it was noticeably smoother and handled a lot better, although I'm now having to turn my attention to the steering box which has tight then loose spots indicating a worn sector shaft.

So does anyone out there have a spare, good small steering box for a Ford? I have one from a cab 12 which I can install, but I also need another for the FGT.

So today it did a run of 70-odd km and ran very well.

Is the F15 box the same as the 4x4 small steering boxes? I'd be keen to see your step-by-step photo-thread of the rebuild if it's the same box! :

The rebuild involved carefully disengaging the horn wire, removing the driver's toe plate, removing the draglink at the lower end, cutting the tiewire and removing split pins, finding, cleaning and painting a good steering box from another F15 and installing same. The box with draglink attached will pass through into the cab with the toe plate removed. While I'm at it I'll fit a splash shield which has been relieved to clear the dipswitch to avoid a short circuit possibility as it sits almost against it.

The steering box is the same on the F15, F15A and the 3-ton versions with the small steering, although the 4X4 draglinks are slightly different. Length of the steering column appears to be the same as cab 12 although the mounting bracket is different.

I wasn't about to pull it apart unless it was necessary. These steering boxes have very weak sector shafts which I think is why Ford were forced to move to a heavier duty version for the 3-tonners eventually.

YEP, You need to walnut blast the bowl, Walnut blasting doesnt damage it.. I dunno if Soda blasting is the same, but I suspect it will clean out the oxidisation, otherwise a scotchbrite & time.

Regards,

Ian
