Default Seals

Alistair, All the Canadian ones I have seen have been cork, I would use graphite gland/pump packing in the correct size, available from any engineering machine suppliers, use the same material to seal your rear axle brake drums, or go for shielded bearings on the outside.

kev.

Default

This is the seal arrangement from the British 1943/44 wheels I am rebuilding.

The top line, from left to right: Outer seal plate, felt dust seal, leather shaft seal & seal carrier.
Bottom line, from left to right: Complete seal assembly, outer seal plate & seal carrier with felt seal installed.

Default Cork seals

When I did the wheels on my carrier I took the shaft and the bit that carries the seal into the local bearing shop, he worked out the inside and outside diamiters then picked out seals off the shelf. Regular lipped seals.
