Default Thanks

Thank you very much guys.
I will take look in the weekend to see if I can use the brakes from my C30 or if I have to get a new set of everything.
I was lucky and found these two books in the UK.

I have had the chance to work a bit on the CGT.
I got the it charging again, I am not quite sure how, I took the dynamo apart and cleaned it, I cleaned the points in the regulator and wires going to them, but nothing happen, but then suddenly yesterday it started charging.

My CGT has a small third fuel tank installes, which I think is a piece of the Artic equipment, the one gallon primer fuel tank, it sure looks like the one LWD parts has for sale.

There is a primer pump installed just above the steering column
The small tank is installed in the left side, just in front of the normal tank.
The hole for the filler neck is very crudely cut.
Do any one know if this is the correct placement for this primer tank?

Default Working from my end - try this

Hi Bob

MB-C2 (W) Supplement To Maintenance Manual MB-C2 Covering Special Cold Weather Equipment link from my site seems to work from here. But try the full address http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/S...0Equipment.htm if that dosen't work try going to my site directly http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/ and look down under the section Manuals and Drawings and try clicking on the link from there.

Please let me know if it doesn't work so I can fix the links.

Cheers Phil

Default mirror bracket

Hi Guys
I have another small question is this the correct mirror bracket for a cab 12 cgt. It appears to be made from a door hinge.

Default Mirror Braket

Hi Niels

Matches the mirror bracket on one of Bill Gregg's http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/R...20color005.jpg

But does not match the other http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/R...20color004.jpg

If you want a larger hi-res version of these photos go to http://canadianmilitarypattern.com/CMP84.htm and click on the image or click the links above.

(note I'll post actual copies of the photo to MLU when I have a moment for archive purpose)

Cheers Phil

Thanks Phil
Well the one that matches is a Chevrolet and the other is a Ford, so that could be the reason for the difference?

Is it possible to retrace where a Army auxiliary workshop (B42) was during the war?
and what the original census number was?

Default Fire extinguisher and roof hatch pad

Hi
Here is another set of questions.
Does any one know if it is correct that the fire extinguisher was placed to the right of the driver, beneath the sidewindow ? on a Cab 12 GT
There are six holes in the side placed in pairs at an angle.
The placement and distance between these holes corresponds well to the size of a Pyrene extinguisher, The problem is that on all the british vehicles I have seen/worked on the bracket for a Pyrene have 5 mounting holes.

Did the Canadians use a different bracket than the british? and if so how does it look and where do I find one?
Second question
In wartime pictures it looks like there was a pad on the inside of the roof, does any one have any dimensions or pictures of this and know how it was attached? there are no visible holes in the hatch of mine for a pad.
Cheers

Niels; I just checked Servicepub's Factory photos CD and it shows a pic of a cab 11 CGT interior. The Pyrene extinguisher is indeed located on the inside of the body side panel, next to the right leg of the driver......at an angle as per the hole orientation. It seems both Chev and Ford carried these in the same location (holes maybe pre-drilled by body manufacturer?)

Regarding the number of holes....My C8 also has 6 holes in the rear cab wall and I came to the same conclusion as you did. Both extinguisher brackets I bought online have 5 holes.....My conclusion is that it might have to do with the release mechanism.....my examples have the spring loaded thingy holding the top, but I have also seen them with an extra band/quick release thingy about 2/3 thirds along the extinguisher. Maybe that's the type using 6 mounting holes????

Default fire extinguisers

Hi Alex
Thanks for confriming that
I as well have both sping loaded, with band 2/3 up and a with clamp that goes over the pump handle, and these are all 5 hole versions.
From looking on google it seems that US vehicles had different types of 6 hole brackets.
I wonder which type is the moste correct for a CMP?

Niels.

Either style of bracket is perfectly acceptable for your CMP. The key is the cup shaped base that holds the nozzle end of the extinguisher. There are even more varitations in the brass extinguisher. This cup disappeared in post war brackets that were either flat folded sheet steel with a spring clip, or a bent wire rod style bracket with a spring clip.

These extinguishers in themselves could fill ones living room if you wanted to make a collection out of them!

Have fun with your CGT!

David

Niels,

I was just looking in the parts list this morning and found under extinguisher, that all types (C8, C15 etc. CGT) use 6 round head slotted screws for fastening. So, I guess you (and I) have to look for a different bracket.....or as David says....just go for the 5 hole version .....and maybe drill two extra holes in the bracket.

Alex

Default and by the way

Here is my Second CGT that I bought last year, also from Norway, it took about 15 min for me to decided to buy it, even though it was some 2500km from where I live and 350 km north of the arctic circle, but it turned out that the shipping to Denmark was actually pretty cheap.
It was restored from bad condition back in the late eighties, by three young guys, using what they could find of original parts and the rest they made.
They restored it to their best effort but in the time before internet and MLU forum, they didn't have access to the same amount of reference material and parts as now, so I have adding/replacing parts on it, and are still missing some things, slowly but surely its getting there, I hope to be adding the roof vent hatch's and spare wheel clamp later this summer.
and then at some point a repaint..... its a bit to frog green for my taste.

and here are some more. The floor is modern alu dock plate, which I would like to replace at some point, but I need the driver and passenger foot well pieces, if anybody has some to spare.

That's a lovely truck, Niels!
It seems the frames for the roof vents are still there on the inside of the body (?). I am afraid I can't help you with floor plates in original pattern; although I think the alu ones shouldn't look too bad for the time being, if you put some paint on them.

Hi Alex
Thanks. no its just the cab frame you can see. The roof hatches is attached via an angle iron frame on the outside.
Yes the floor needs painting, and I need to fit the winch handbrake.
I am thinking about repainting it SCC 15 Olive drab, since it was rebuild in 44, but would still like a bit of wavy black on it, but I am not entirely sure that's correct.
An interesting thing about it is that in some places has Ford parts e.g. the rear winch guide and drive for the winch

Those brackets are for attaching the firing platform of a 25 pdr.
They where also fitted to the early Morris, as seen on the picture.
I can not remember ever seeing a picture with a FAT with the platform on the back, I guess because it would have been bloody heavy lifting to get it up there for the crew,
I think they where removed towards the end of the war, but could be wrong

Default The internet and forum is fantastic

This is the reason why I really like the internet and this forum.
My restored CGT did not have the cut out for the spare wheel carrier.
What to do....
Through facebook I came in contact with a guy in Norway who had the original one, I made a drawing from pictures of his, then he filled out the measurements, a friend (who I came contact with through MLU) in the UK then made two from the drawings as he needed one as well.
Non of it would have happend with out this place.

Hello niels
Do you find out if this bracket is for the spare wheel of the truck or the gun?

I make lots of mesurements on picture, for me the 10.5 x20 cant go between the tubes . A this time the other cmp has run flat and no spare wheel , I will have to built this parts on my truck and I would be happy to understand how it works.

Maybe someone has a picture with the wheel?

Best regards
Sylvain

Based on this picture spare wheel carrier on the FAT cab 12 is for a spare wheel for the limber and gun.
and a picture of a Karrier with the platform on the back.
and a picture of a Cab 13 with both gun and tractor tire.
