I think Phil is right...Chev's use a tube and Fords seem to use an angled strip.

From what I have seen, the strip/tube doesn't show on any cab11's. In fact the Servicepub factory photo's CD only shows the strip/tube on a few cab 12's, but definately not all. I presume early CMP's didn't have marker lights up front at all(?). Maybe some were retrofitted, but I have seen a number of Cab 11's and 12's here which don't show any evidence of any marker light ever being fitted.

Does anyone know how you can tell the difference between a Cab 11 and Cab 12? I have noticed on my new truck that the horn is located near the front of the engine were on my old truck the horn is on the chassis, also the check plating is two different sizes on the new truck.

The id number on the new truck is..

You have a cab 12

Cab 11 have a bolt down flat plate for a bonnet and a full 1 piece grille and surround

Cab 12 have lifting bonnet and 2 piece grille

Picture shows cab 11 in front and cab 12 2nd

Shane,

The box you asked about many moons ago (with the twin swing lids), is an ammunition container for Polsten drum magazines. They appear to be of GM-H manufacture: never seen anything but.

Cab 12 Portees in Australia: two types, those manufactured for British Contracts in Canada, and imported via the ME, and the Australian version of thre same vehicle, manufactured in Australia. There are many small differences, but the stand-out feature is the angle of the stowed gun wheels: Aust are vertical, Brit/Can are angled.

Most Aust Portee bodies were removed and a GS body mounted in, I think, early 1944, to help overcome a shortage of tactical load carriers.

Thanks Aj and Mike. The ammo box is good news for the museum, i hope that in the near future we may have the Polsten to go with it. There is a picture of the Polsten in above thread which is still laying in a paddock
Need to pick your brains again lads, are the following photos original to the Cab 12 or are they a farmers handy work?

Have started to do the cluster which is coming up well. It will only serve as a cosmetic feature as i will be putting in modern gauges. Have sent the generator away to be changed to 12 volt as this seems to be the general recommendation so all globes will have to be changed as well.

Have been given a speedo needle to replace the one i put in a safe place and now cant find

I don't think they are original. Looks like you need the parts book for the F60L. I have a spare!

Hi all.

A massive weekend and im happy to say we have saved quiet a few fantastic items. The photos never show the huge effort, cuts, and sweat but believe me it took a lot of work to save these and they are now in safe hands. This was all done with only three people Hugh, Ryan and myself on the first day and the help of a crane on the second.
