Can anyone please help with how the unit works been told it works off the carb is it steel tube from carb or rubber

Hi Arthur,
Can only speak regarding Fords here, but I believe there are elements of both in original manufacture. Anyone else, feel freemto correct me if that is in error! I make that comment, based on some old photographs. Can check the manual tomorrow afternoon, if you want.

Hope these help.
They look to be of a Cab11 or Cab12. Don't know if there is differences in materials to cab13, but Cab13 goes down the centre windscreen post.

So I ended up with the trico motor wiper shown below. It appears similar to the CMP one but has a slight difference in the attached bar on the back and wiper post. Was it used on CMP's? If not what? Can it be used on a cab 13? It appears that the holes all line up.

![]() Doesn't that extra strip of metal come off if not wanted? The above photos show the ones I bought several years ago. Compare to yours. They had that the extra bit, but were easily removed. I just undid the retaining nut on the wiper post and removed 2x short bolts, one each end if the metal strip. I dont see the bolts on yours. What IS holding those strips on. Rivets? Pressed on?

The strip is only held on by two recessed screws that look like they can come out. I'll try taking the strip off since there didn't appear to be enough post on the outside to get the wiper arm and nut on.

Gday Arthur, Eric & Tony,
Those photos in Tony's first post are of my truck which is a Cab 12 F60L. The wiper units are original, the steel piping is not nor is the rubber flex hose to the Carburettor. (The hose I used is vacuum wiper hose available from Macs). Have had a look at few Cabs with the remanants of the original piping and the set up in mine is very close, if not bang on, original. Rubber hose is used from the Carb and mates up with steel piping (Just at the bottom of the windscreen).

The main difference;Erics ones mount on the bar, while Tony's mounts on the spindle housing.
I think Eric's are the Std. QMS (US) as found on later WWII Dodge etc. I have a pair of Canadian Ford ones Which I don't want to open. Part number looks like CO10 17505 Maybe Brian can confirm?

Where did you get that little junction block to connect the metal lines? My cab 13 is missing the entire system so I have no reference on what parts are needed and where they go but your pics are a big help.

Should be able to get a three way junction block at any place that sells spares for vehicles Eric. Ordinary brake line fittings will join into it and that is what the original set up was anyway.
The T juction block I used was out of my little cab 13. I agree with Lynn. Your wiper units appear to be Dodge. If they fit, who's to say a set of wiper units werent pressed from a Dodge into a Blitz during the war?

My wiper motors are clogged with ancient grease. Has anyone figured out how to free them. WD 40 didn't help.

Dis-assemble them, clean them and lubricate them with fresh lubricant. Personally, I like some of the synthetics like Dow Corning O-ring lubricant. It won't thicken in colder temperature so the wipers will work in all temps.
I have always had success taking them apart. Make sure you check any inlet or outlet tubes going into the motor. Mud wasps normally like to curl up in there and die, blocking the tube. |

Couple years ago Brian Asbury was selling the official Trico tool for opening up these wiper bodies. He also had NOS paper gaskets and Trico grease to go back inside once they were clean. Might be worth contacting him to see if he still had some stuff.

You can see from the first two pic's that Tony Baker has put up, the rubber hose I used. It is the same hose right down to the Carburettor. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures of the set up at the Carb. It happily fits over the brake line steel tubing and does not need to be clamped. ![]()
