So I just got off the phone with an older gentleman that I was talking to about getting a brengun carrier that is in the woods way up north. He was telling me they made rubber tracks for them for the dessert. Said they where a bit wider and dint make as much noise. Could this be true as I have never heard of them before? Any thoughts...

News to me. Perhaps he is thinking of the armoured snowmobile or an American Weasel. Not sure how much desert use they saw since they were fairly late in the war.
As to wider track, there is very little clearance between the track and the hull as it is. Even an inch wider on each side would pretty much make them unworkable. Last edited by rob love; 30-01-16 at 19:08. |

Never heard of rubber tracks unless poached from a different tracked vehicle. They did one for ice and snow.

The problem is, as we get older, we start to remember things differently than the truth. What we need to do as responsible people is; try not to do that.

Shawn,
I am very game for a walk in the woods and some thoughts on recovery. Better still have absolutely no interest in owning a carrier but i do like a good escapade and I have been denied a few recently. Somehow I would go and see because you just never know what may come of it, never know, you might find some Penguin or something. Honestly, I love an outing, am willing to split fuel and keep a secret

I call BS but I did own a carrier with rubber tracks at one time. The old fellow insisted they were original. They were original alright, someone's original concept...
A bunch of tractor tires cut, rolled out and then fastened to the original track using carriage bolts to hold the rubber tire sections on. Why? Who knows, Bubba is a very creative guy. ![]() |

Shawn, to toot my own horn a bit. I am very practically minded and work around big lumpy bits and big things and love recovery work and love to see a fellow enthusiast save a vehicle.
Please count me in for the recce. ![]() ![]()

If someone toots their horn in the woods and no-one hears, did it really happen? Take lots of pics of the recovery operation (if it goes ahead), we'd all love to see how it goes. (We all love to see what it might be!)

This one will be restored as my other one was to badly cut up before I got her. There will be lots of video taken of the recovery when I get the go ahead. Im hoping this spring to get in there.
