The starter is a fairly standard one for the Detroit series of diesel engines. We used to have a separate NSN for the MLVW, but eventually it migrated over to the same NSN (2920-01-187-3636) as the M113A2 APC (and I seem to recall there was another family of vehicles...maybe the M109?) which used a 6V53 engine. You had to unbolt the starter drive head and rotate it to the correct location to use with the 8.2 engine. There were several manuafacturers of the starters....prestolite used models 7264MD as well as 7296MD.

Both starters are available on ebay as well as commercially.
