LRDG Te Rangi
Hi, I was wonder if anyone has photos of the lrdg Ford 15CTW Pilot car TE Rangi. I am trying to build a replica of it. I have most of the recommended books, but it is still hard to get enough detail regarding T Patrols Te Rangi.
Thanks Scott |

I think you will need to get Brendan O'Carroll's latest book which has very many photos, some of which will be new to most LRDG enthusiasts. I am still waiting for my copy, so cannot quote details.

Hi Scott,
Two pics trawled from Ebay long ago, I hope you'll like them. https://i.postimg.cc/Wb1P4Qhf/Ford-1...e-Rangi-p1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/tCvGn26R/Ford-1...e-Rangi-p2.jpg Good luck with your build! Last edited by Hanno Spoelstra; 11-01-21 at 10:11. Reason: edited to attach photos |

It is!
What is the rubber hose going from the engine bay to the POW can on the RH running board? Jury-rigged fuel supply? Radiator condensor tank?

The hose diameter is small, IMHO it is fuel line.

Radiator overflow?

Most likely to be radiator overflow to condenser on running board.

I strongly agree with Lynn and Andrew. To put the tank inside the engine compartment would have been difficult as there would not be much room and it would have got too hot in there for the near boiling water to cool. Similarly there would not really be space in front of the grill or on top of the fenders. The relatively small diameter pipe is necessary for the water to be able to suck back as the engine cools.

This could be a timing thing or the tank could have suffered an accident or a bullet hole?......

overflow
I believe it is a overflow condenser for sure. Looks like the easiest way to mount one on that truck. Just great photos. just what i was hoping for.
thanks again scott Last edited by Scott Cacciamani; 14-01-21 at 01:03. Reason: added more |

Could I also offer a suggestion that it could have something to do with the Vickers pintle mounted on the RH windscreen pillar? How early was this photo taken?

Is it possible these cutouts in the bonnet were enough to keep the engine overheating away? On that one with condnser can I posted above they are missing...
