A theory: The military 1941 De Soto ute I had , had the typical Aust. army requirement , where the nomenclature was stenciled on the firewall, I recall in that case, the model was SP11 . Reading the list Hanno uploaded ,I see that the 'S' was possibly meaning 'Special' . These Plymouth based army utes had heavier rear springs fitted than the standard sedans, and possibly other chassis mods. Maybe the 'S' covered those mods.

It doesn't distinguish military from civilian cars, but the military cars may well be in the blackout range.
