After the Second World War, Argentina purchased all of the Cavalry tack that the Canadian Army had been holding in storage at the Ordnance Depot in Montreal. Soldiers had been employed full-time maintaining enough tack to equip a Cavalry Division.
This anecdote was the first thing I thought of when it was mentioned that the box could possibly be related to a mounted pannier. |
