Could it not just be a small step thats upside down. It looks the the army version of the newer plastic ones that CDN sells.
There also doesn't seem to be any ready access to get up onto the back of the truck. The height of the unknown object comes up to about the halfway mark of the wheels. It would sure make getting into the back easier.
