The 'Gallows' mount had an internal cable and counterweight - here's a pic of a Wireless Signals (Aust) on a C15A with the gallows mount fitted.
![]() And another: ![]() Source And there's a large pic here of a No9 (Aust) Ford gun tractor where it was positioned over the second hatch.

1941 Plymouth ute . Otherwise - 12cwt GS Van in army parlance . The passengers cushion seat sat on a wooden base , he stood on the board , out the hatch, whilst shooting down zeros .
The Aust. mod. White O.P. scout car had one also . Mike
