ARN 142*** are all for chassis numbers starting with M00***. These are for the C60X Armoured Car Chassis ordered by Australia but they didn't realize that there was no Armoured Car body plans available, so the majority were converted to Truck Breakdown No4 (Aust). Most of these had different wheels fitted with 7.50 x 20 tyres. I owned M00040.(See in OLDCMP.net for the story). It was complete, including the wooden tool box behind the cabin. This box had a brass plate saying "Made By General Motors Holden". The truck was used after the war for logging at Mt Alfred Vict. Australia with a jinker using the rear axle set from a DUKW. Fortunately for me, all the body that they removed, was still sitting around the property. Unfortunately I sold it in 1995 and after changing hands a few times, it is now rusting away at Rust-Hill in SA.(SA MLU members will know where I mean.)

Yes Keith, thats my old girl. What a shame to see it like that. The GMH badge is visable in the lower photo, below the door of the wooden box. This is M00040 ARN 142144 and apart from the winch on the gantry and the tailgate it was 99% complete when I sold it. ( It was a promise I made to the then other half, so I could go on the 1995 "Back to the Track". Should have kept it and done away with ----------. No, enuf of that, no use crying over spilt milk. )

| Vehicle Return

Hi Rick - perhaps we should convince Dr. Who (no conception of date, time or travel distance)to return the truck. In this instance I would sanction a reverse border raid. Bob

Hi Rick - spoke to Dr. Who today. Was surprised you hadn't asked yourself. Seems a bit reluctant but you never know. Says he'll see you at Corowa but I reckon earlier contact could work. Bob

You right, Tony, I made a mistake. M00040 is the C60X at Yarrawonga Vic. Mine must be M00036. I got the photo's mixed up I guess. M00036 had GMH Cabin no 25 which is on a plate under the bonnet (hood). Found M00029 the other day about 200km away. Pretty sad. I'll post photo's later. thanks for the correction. Rick Bob, I have spoken to Dr.Who previously to no avail. Maybe he's changing his mind. Will try again. Rick

Made another mistake, should have put M00021 not M00029 for the one I found the other day. There is an F60S there as wellwith an interesting brass plate above the dash. Rick

Just back from the collection run No drama,s That would be a first Thankyou very much to bruce for his help Thankyou very much to our own Tony Smith for the supply of a couple of tyres to suit .It was good to meet you .Just a pity I didnt have more time to have a look at the toy collection The old c8 certainly is a rusty one but its saving grace is the worst of the rust is in the ancillary/bolt on components but im sure the generosity and knowledge of this forum and wider community will yield some replacement parts

| C8 rim question

bit of a question I have 4 13 inch rims of two varieties The first just has two halves without holding bolts The second has multiple holding bolts like there bigger cmp brothers On others I have only seen the first variety Are the second ring-ins or are they originals and just another c8 anomaly

Andrew, Have you checked to see that these wheels still fitted are not just on inside out? Looking at the photo of the wheel on the axle, it looks to me to have 12 weld marks . If that's the case then the wheel is on ar** about ti*. Rick
