It should read:

There. Truth in advertising restored.

I used to be a Camel smoker, but as I've gotten older I can't catch'em anymore.

When I was at school Camel was known as the only cigarette with a picture of the factory on the packet.

I wish that I could 'walk a mile' full stop.

I started smoking Camels as none of my mates would smoke them, so OP's when offered by me, were refused by them. (Camel SH*&XT) I smoked their OP's and enjoyed them. As I couldn't afford to supply all my mates with smokes, this was my way out.

Gave it up years ago, though. Couldn't afford to drive the car I wanted and to smoke as well.

Never smoked (), but I do remember lots of joking at school about various now-defunct brands (Ardath, Craven A, Senior Service, etc), but can't remember the actual jokes. Any takers?

Default Camels..

Something along the lines of "9 out of ten men who have tried Camel prefer Women", or something to that effect.

Ya got it all wrong! 9 out of 10 GERMANS prefer camels. I wonder if it's got to do anything with the joke about "Why is the camel called the 'Ship of the Desert?'"

Because it can float so long on a drink of water that it will "walk" a gazillion miles across the desert for you

I remember the trouble caused back in the mid '60s here when a tragic news bulletin reported on the crash of a Vickers Viscount:

Quote:
Just before 1pm on September 22, 1966, a Vickers Viscount 832, VH-RMI in Ansett-ANA colours, was cruising at 17,500 feet between Mount Isa and Longreach on its way to Brisbane. On board were twenty passengers and four crew.

A fire broke out in the pressurisation blower and the flames spread quickly. The crew commenced an emergency descent, but 22kms short of Winton the plane broke up and crashed.

It was Australia's equal fourth worst commercial airline disaster up to that time.
The relevance here was we had TV advertising of a cigarette called the Viscount and in the batch of ads following the announcement there was one for Viscount with the following jingle:

Quote:
Light up a Viscount, a Viscount, a Viscount
When you light up a Viscount
The best of them all.

It’s always a pleasure
at work or at leisure
When you light up a Viscount, the best of them all.
I kid you not.

Quite so, and they're a bit short too.

I would always prefer the proper, longer, straight-thru Yank ciggies wholly devoid of any mufflers, Chesterfield or Pall Mall; I keep a small stock of the latter, privately imported, for special occasions.
